Sports Medicine
Mission Statement
The Sports Medicine Team is proud to care for the NYCAL and NYSAIS teams that represent UNIS. It is our aim to prepare athletes for practice and competition in the most professional manner by adhering to traditional and cutting-edge athletic training techniques. We strive to provide an environment that nurtures healing and encourages the student-athlete to always be the best they can be.
All of the Sports Medicine department will work under the advice of our licensed team physician. The care provided will include-
- Prevention- Perhaps the most important area of Sports Medicine. Proactive medical care is what we strive to achieve with all of our teams at UNIS. Techniques such as strength training, conditioning, speed and agility, mobility, and flexibility are strongly valued by the Athletic Training staff.
- Evaluation- Each athlete can expect a thorough and documented examination of their injury complaint. All medical professionals, including the Athletic Trainers, are licensed by the State of New York and are fully qualified to determine the appropriate course of action.
- Treatment-Our philosophy strongly favors a conservative, non-operative resolution. We do understand that certain circumstances will require orthopedic intervention, but most injuries can be resolved through progressive exercise, modalities, and manual therapy.
- Rehabilitation- The UNIS Athletic Trainers are very well versed in rehabilitation protocols ranging from pre-operative and post-operative to minor muscle strains and ligament sprains. We stay up to date on the most current rehabilitation techniques and offer a wide range of tools to assist in expediting the healing process.
